Bearded figure with halo wearing a white tunic and black cloak and biretta, holding a book. There is a sun in the upper left corner, and flowers in the bottom corners.
Note Fr. Steele:
"cd be San Juan Evangelista, more likely an Eastern church father (Atanasio, Basilio, Cirilo, etc.)"|"Here is José Aragon at his quiet best. Note the little bare feet sticking out below the robe. The star (or sun or whatever) in the upper corner is unexampled, as is (more strikingly) the headgear. The closest thing to the headgear may be that of RU17, El Rey Mago or San Clemente Papa Romano; so it is probably meant to suggest some Eastern-Mediterranean hat or biretta."

Apostle and evangelist, usually identified as the "beloved disciple," one of the "Sons of Thunder," who was traditionally believed to have lived into the second century and died on the Island of Patmos. Bearded, wearing a biretta and a dark cloak over a light tunic, holding a book and pointing to it; or, wringing his hands, bareheaded and usually beardless, especially as part of a Calvario (crucifixion group).
