Artist statement: As a photographer my goal is to draw viewers towards beauty in things otherwise ignored and disregarded. I began exploring this theme through macro-images of plant life. My goal was to capture the detail of the images as crisp and precisely as possible. This current body of work explores the effect of light filtered through droplets of water on backgrounds with either landscapes or human figures. When I switched subject matter to water the purpose of my photography evolved. These photographs grant the audience emotions that may be calming, saddening, or even unsettling. The relation to the background landscape is just as important as the presence of water. While the water droplets reflect and capture the background as a false or distorted world, the landscape backgrounds reveal a real representation, despite the blurred focus. This component of the series reflects a calm personal exterior. In contrast, my photos that depict human forms in a background represent the masked and drowned feelings a person holds within. Sequenced together, these images reflect the inner and outer world I experience as an art student faced with anxiety of my ambiguous future. I made half of the images in black and white in order to convey a larger amount of emotions and also to make the main focus more specific. This decision was also influenced by other photographers like Karl Blossfeldt who took in-depth, tight photographs in black and white and made his own macro-camera to accomplish this. I also fell in love with the amount of detail that black and white allowed one to see. The details accompanied in black and white photography invoke a closer relation to the images of the collection. The use of color in the other half of the work represents moods and emotions that can also be interpreted through the subject‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö√ë‚àö‚àÇ‚Äö√†√∂‚àö√´‚Äö√†√∂‚Äö√†√á‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö‚Ć‚àö‚àÇ‚Äö√†√∂‚àö¥‚Äö√Ñ√∂‚àö‚Ć‚àö‚àǨ®‚Äö√Ñ¢s body language. Through these haunting images I have created an expression of my inner struggle in the face of uncertainty, capturing my exterior reality and interior anxiety in the face of the unknown.
