As the first person of African descent to set foot on Antarctica, George W. Gibbs Jr. made a difference in spite of segregation and discrimination in 20th century America. His daughter, Leilani Raashida Henry of Denver will discuss his story and her book about his experiences for this months Good Trouble Conversations.
When we acknowledge who we are, we decide how the natural current of our lives will shape, direct and lead us to our destiny. The Call of Antarctica: Exploring and Protecting the Worlds Coldest Climate explores Gibbs desire for freedom to realize his dreams. As he navigated the mainstream white world, he opened doors to inclusion, equity and diversity for others. He was part of Admiral Richard E. Byrds III expedition to the South Pole.
Henry, a licensed educational kinesiologist, has worked with Fortune 50 companies, Ivy League institutions and non-profits for 25 years as a coach and consultant. Her book about her fathers experiences launched in October 2021.
Anti-racism is a doorway not a destination. Learn to walk through this doorway and make the 21st century a time for cooperation and synergy.
